Tribal Village

Posted from Nadi, Fiji by Chris, 29 Jan 09 at 22:41

Last full day in Fiji we decided to get some culture so took off to the mountains to a 'tribal village'. We were greeted by the Chief, deciding to skip the Kava - spit welcome ceremony then were escorted up through the jungle (more mozzies)for a refreshing dip in a cold waterfall. Daryl fell over 3 times, lost her glasses (later recovered in a stream)and got caked in mud as the ground was still waterlogged from recent rains.
Our 'ethnic' meal was served on plastic plates decorated with cartoon animals and involved tinned tuna, sausages and tapioca.

An unforgettable experience, but maybe not for its ethnicity.
The chief gave us a lift back to our hotel in his tribal 4x4. He whipped off his sula (sarong) and made me wrap it round myself so as not to dirty his upholstery. He donned a pair of tribal wranglers.
Next stop Chile (if our credit card returns safely having been left on one of the islands

Think you two need to write a book on your return, entitled

"How to survive whilst loosing things on a World Adventure Trip"

It's been great reading all of your adventures, as your trip is nearly identical to my daughter and husband's 6 months ago!! Only difference being they went skiing on Mount Cook and there were NO mozzies around to plague them.
