Street Carnival, Lima

Posted from Lima, Peru by Chris'n'Daryl, 02 Feb 09 at 17:30

Arrived in Lima eventually (a marathon haul) but worth it because they put on a huge street carnival for us for our first day.

Hilarious flipping through the TV Channels last night - Channel 9 News. Eth Eth Eth Eth, Boutros Boutros Galli, Chris Waddle.
And the weather here? SCORCHIO

Spotted on the BBC World Service you are having a bit of snow back there in UK. Get rid of before we return please.

We have a huge centrally located hotel room for about 30 pounds and food is so cheap. Last night{s meal for 2 comprised grilled chicken, lamb chops, liver, lots of other anonymous meat(some may have been large pasta tubes or possibly aortas and other major blood vessels), chips to feed the whole street, salad and a jug of sangria, all for less than 10 quid and we left half of it. Off now for a game of cards and some Cat cabernet sauvignon which is more palatable than it sounds. Tomorrow we fly to Cuzco - first steps to acclimatise to the altitude of Machu Picchu

A bit of snow is putting it mildly. Very beautiful though but so cold - 5 or even -7 tonight -if I was you I would stay a while longer in the warm. Your blog is so great I can hear your voice as I read each hilarious adventure. Just measured the snow after our sledging with the grandchildren 1foot. (how sad measuring snow!!!)Good luck with altitude. Just off to friends for supper -looking forward to next blog.
