Chris was fascinated by the canals, water fountains and especially the Inca wells, pun intended. He wishes we had done this 30 years ago and gone the whole hog by completing The Inca trail and climbing Wayne Picchu. Nevertheless he seems to have found his niche (see pic)

Next was the big one - Machu Picchu. This involved a 4 hour train ride which zigzagged backwards and forwards up the mountain as it was so steep. The visit was well worth it as the place is magical, not just the ruins but the fact that they are at the top of the Andes (so handy). Every time you looked down you felt heady, both with the altitude and the visual impact of seeing a tributary of the Amazon several thousand feet below. We had to go up and down steep steps with no safety barriers - Peruvians don't appear to be bothered by Health and SafetyChris was fascinated by the canals, water fountains and especially the Inca wells, pun intended. Please! you will need the photos for the final chapters of the book. I hate stories without pictures and happy endings.
Take care and enjoy you final weeks of the trip.
Hope you managed to sort something out about losing your bag and did not have to wait hours in the police station like i did in italy. Di x
