Again. news of our imminent arrival had gone before us and there was another carnival in full swing. We were delighted that we could watch it from our hotel window, including a firework display. Our enthusiasm plummeted at 3 am when they were drunkenly playing the same old tune off key
After a couple of hours sleep we were up for a day on Lake Titicaca. Our guide explained that the vast lake was shared with Bolivia. Peru has the Titi and Bolivia the caca.
First stop an artificial floating island which is home to 7 families. Everything, huts, boats (had a ride in one) and even the island itself, is made from reeds, which is strange to walk on. Apparently, the residents walk like ducks when they come onto the mainland
If any of the families fall out with each other they just hack the island in half and float away from them. The times I've wished we could do that with our neighbours, present ones excepted of course. When the young adults get married, the parents chop off a bit of the island as their starter home.
The carnival is continuing today but we're hoping rain will stop play. We move on to Arequipa and Colca Canyon tomorrow - a 6 hour bus ride.
