Next week they take off for Argentina, Bolivia, Columbia and Chile then on to Oz, Cambodia, India etc etc on a 6 month tour.
Now South America isn`t the easiest part of the world to visit, and Rio itself can be a bit daunting, especially at carnival time, but these young people (they can`t be more than 19) have all the confidence in the world, they plan meticulously, they live frugally (apart from partying), they smile and have a lot of fun. How do they do that when barely out of school? When I was that age the furthest I had travelled was Manchester and I`d been working for 4 years!
Here`s `hats off` to you youngsters, so pleased you haven`t waited until your October years to do your adventuring.

Our hostel here in Rio is full of delightful English gap year students. Most of them have been here for about a month, working as house painters in the favellas or other community work. Building carnival floats, costumes and even taking part in the Sambodome itself. And they have had to pay a considerable amount to do this.Next week they take off for Argentina, Bolivia, Columbia and Chile then on to Oz, Cambodia, India etc etc on a 6 month tour.

World exploration in October years can be even more enlightening than those of the days of youth.
Safe journey back and thanks for our world tour. We'll miss it all.
